Common Pet Problems at Home and How to Solve Them

Pets are great companions. They will love you unconditionally and will even take a bullet for you if needed. However, a lot of effort and money is required in order to care for them and meet their daily needs. You have to save up and create a budget for their food, living expenses, accessories, medicine and of course, their trips to the veterinarian. The house may then be pretty hard to maintain because of the mess they may be causing. There are some common pet problems, which may seem to be a riddle to some pet owners. This entry will give you the reason why they do it and how to solve them.

Cat

Cats scratching on surfaces. Our feline friends are pretty awesome companions. Their cute meows and barely audible purrs are a joy hear and feel. Petting them also gives therapeutic effects, relieving stress and makes you feel a little bit happier. However, raising cats also presents a challenge, especially if they are scratching on the furniture or the carpets. Sofas made of high quality leather and expensive rugs made of fragile fabric are easily susceptible to scratches, rips, tears and chips that can be sustained though cat-scratching. Felines mainly scratch surfaces to mark territory, shed the outer skin on their claws and to get rid of parasites that may be residing in them. The best way to get rid of this is to purchase a cheap carpeted surface and place it on the area where the cat scratches. Another solution is to not allow cats on the furniture or carpets.

Cats receiving the call of nature everywhere. Let’s face it, cat excretions (urine and feces) smell absolutely horrible. You would not want them on a porous material, since it is nearly impossible to remove the smell. Usually, it is a natural tendency for cats to bury those substances in order to hide the smell. They do this to mask it to prevent other cats or predators from knowing that they are there. The best way to counter this problem is of course to but a litter box filled deodorizing cat litter. Training a cat to receive the call on it is a pretty easy job; they will easily know that it is place where they must do it.

Dog Scratching
External bugs and parasites. Dogs are man’s best friend. That sentence is cliché and you have probably heard of it for over a thousand times. Fleas and ticks are pretty small but pose very big challenges. They cause dogs to experience major discomfort. These parasites may make canines scratch, lose some of their fur and have open wounds and lesions. This opens up multiple problems. If there is an itchy wound that the dog scratches excessively, it may cause it to fester and get infected. Remember, it only takes one tick or flea a few weeks to multiply into hundreds or possibly thousands. The best way to stop these nuisances is to give your pooch Weekly baths with anti-bacterial (or anti-parasitical) soap. Even regular soap is enough. Also be sure to try products like anti-tick and flea powder and sprays that are available in most pet stores and animal hospitals.
